Update from Managing Partner.

Sam George

Rubin Lewis O’Brien Solicitors have been supporting the residents and businesses of Cwmbran, Newport and beyond for over 50 years. Offering a full suite of legal services it has been quite well placed to weather this particular storm.

Managing Partner, Sam George commented. “Having invested significantly in our IT infrastructure the majority of our staff are able to work remotely and we were able to transition very quickly. As a firm we offer a broad range of specialisms and that diversity means that we are not overly reliant on any one practice area. Our Wills, Trusts and Probate team have been busy making wills and creating lasting powers of attorney. Employment law has seen an uplift and we are advising employers and employees alike on a range of issues, including the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which is unprecedented and has seen more than six million workers temporarily laid off. The family lawyers have also been busy and I am always struck by the dedication they show to their clients, particularly in these very testing times.”

Sam had given thought to the future growth of the firm and also the development of Newport as a business location in the longer term, he said “while the property market has suffered through the current pandemic we believe that there is significant pent up demand in the region and we are positioning our property department so that it can meet that demand as lockdown restrictions are relaxed. We have significantly upgraded our IT capabilities in readiness for that increased demand and contacted local estate agents to offer our assistance to sellers to ensure that they are ‘market ready” when things open up. We have also launched our client portal and App which enables all conveyancing clients to see exactly what stage their transaction has reached at any time. Whilst the pandemic has presented many challenges, it has also shown how technology can be embraced and used positively and we certainly feel we’ve used the lockdown to improve the services we can offer to our clients and enhance their experience.”

On Newport’s future he commented, “It is very exciting to be part of the business community in this region. I believe the changes that have been forced on us in recent months will be the catalyst for a new way of working and doing business as firms embrace the new normal. Newport has much to offer and is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities that will present themselves as the economy recovers.”
