October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of the many forms of abuse that can occur within relationships, to encourage open conversations, and to remind those affected that help is available. At Rubin Lewis O’Brien, we understand how daunting it can feel to reach out for help.
I have a wealth of experience representing survivors of domestic abuse, offering compassionate, clear and practical legal advice at every stage. I take pride in providing sensitive yet firm support that empowers clients to make informed decisions in difficult circumstances.
Over the years, I have developed strong links with local domestic abuse charities and support agencies, including Cyfannol Women’s Aid, and I am proud to receive excellent feedback from both clients and partner organisations who value the care, professionalism, and dedication shown throughout the process.
Domestic abuse can take many forms, physical, emotional, psychological, financial, and coercive or controlling behaviour. Whatever the situation, the law offers vital protection. Urgent injunctive orders can be sought under the Family Law Act 1996, including:
These orders can be made without notice to the other party in urgent cases, ensuring immediate safety and security.
Within ongoing family proceedings, the courts take allegations of abuse extremely seriously. The Pathfinder process and Practice Direction 12J of the Family Procedure Rules ensure that such cases are approached with sensitivity and that the safety and welfare of survivors and children remain the court’s central concern.
If you are experiencing domestic abuse, or are worried about someone who might be, please know that confidential, professional help is available. I can help you understand your legal options, secure urgent protection, and guide you through the family court process with the clarity and reassurance you need.
