We are delighted to share that Damian Lines, our Managing Partner and head of the Wills, Trusts and Probate department, has been appointed by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) as a member of the Panel of Deputies.

A Deputy is appointed by the Court of Protection when someone lacks the mental capacity to manage their own affairs. Often, a family member or friend takes on the role, but when there’s no one suitable or willing, the Court can appoint a pre-approved panel member. This might happen in cases involving family conflicts, a history of abuse or undue influence, conflicting interests, or when a proposed deputy cannot manage their own affairs.

Becoming a panel deputy involved a rigorous application process, requiring a solid understanding of Court rules, OPG Standards, and the relevant law.

Damian Lines TEP said of his appointment:
“It is an honour to be appointed to the panel by the OPG and to have the opportunity to safeguard some of the most vulnerable people in society, ensuring that their needs and best interests are paramount.”

The appointment took effect from 1st January 2026.
