Kate Toner TEP

Associate Solicitor

Specialising in: Making a Will Powers of Attorney and Loss of Mental Capacity Court of Protection Probate and Estate Administration

  • Solicitor – Qualified 2017

I am an associate solicitor and registered Trust and Estate Practitioner.

I joined Rubin Lewis O’Brien in June 2017 following the completion of my Training Contract at a respected Newport firm. Prior to qualification I read Law with Criminology at the University of Sheffield. After graduating, I completed a postgraduate diploma in legal practice at Cardiff University.

I provide advice in a number of areas including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate matters. I also assist with applications to the Court of Protection where a Deputy is required, or where a decision needs to be made for someone who lacks capacity.

I have a particular interest in working with the elderly and those who lack mental capacity and have received excellent feedback for my empathetic and understanding manner, whilst being robust and thorough in my approach to legal issues.  I enjoy building a relationship with my clients in order to provide a service that meets their individual requirements.

I am a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. STEP is a worldwide recognised organisation, and this is a qualification that few hold.

The qualification has allowed me to obtain an Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation. I am one of only a few Solicitors in the county to hold this. This is a specialised examination based purely on advising clients regarding their Wills. Will writing is too often considered a task that many can complete, when in fact, it is more than ever, a task in which legal advice should be sort. During my time working for Rubin Lewis O’Brien, I have seen too many families who have been ill-advised when drafting Wills and the consequences can be disastrous. When the opportunity arose to complete this qualification, I could not turn it down.

I am passionate about my work and am proud to work for a firm who have allowed me to further develop my skills and knowledge to provide clients with the advice they deserve.

In my spare time I love to travel, experiencing new foods and cultures. I like to relax by carrying out some retail therapy with my mother, attending shows/concerts, reading and meeting up with my friends. My Fiancé and I are getting married towards the end of the year and so we are busy preparing for the wedding.

Client Feedback

“Truly wonderful service from Rubin Lewis O’Brien. Both me and my partner used lockdown to get a few jobs completed that we’d being putting off for months. Our wills were at the top of this list; one to be updated and one to be started from scratch. Kate Toner was assigned to look after us and from the initial communication and then subsequent phone calls every detail was dealt with in a truly professional manner with all questions and queries answered using her wealth of knowledge and experience. Kate and her colleague even came to our house to witness the signing for us which was truly appreciated. Can’t recommend the service highly enough and a big thank you to Rubin, Lewis O’Brien and to Kate in particular for the outstanding service received.”
